Papenburg, 3. December 2007 -The second ethylene tanker out of a series of four was delivered by MEYER WERFT to the Norwegian shipping company Solvang ASA (Stavanger). This ship is the 50th gas tanker the shipyard has built since 1963.
MEYER WERFT has specialised in the construction of LPG and ethylene carriers. The LEG/LPG tankers for the Norwegian company have a length overall of 154.90 m, a breadth of 22.70 m, a cargo capacity of 17.000 cbm and can operate at a speed of 17.7 kts. Fully loaded, with ethylene cooled down to minus 104°C, the ships will have a draught of 8.10 m, with vinyl chloride monomer onboard approx. 10.60 m. In addition to ethylene and vinyl chloride monomer, the tankers will be able to carry amongst other gases also ammonia and propylene oxide, cooled down to minus 48° C.
The ship has proven its seaworthiness during the seal trials when all systems and plants were tested. Another two tankers will follow in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2008.
Neptun Werft in Rostock/Warnemünde, a sister company of MEYER WERFT in Papenburg, built the cargo tanks made of low temperature steel and other components for this ship.
