Royal Caribbean Signs Letter of Intent to Build New Generation of Ships

MIAMI/PAPENBURG - February 11, 2011 - Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. has signed a letter of intent with shipyard MEYER WERFT to build the first of a new generation of Royal Caribbean International cruise ships. Developed under the code-name "Project Sunshine," the new vessel design incorporates new and exciting features that take advantage of the best of Royal Caribbean's experience and imagination. The project is a result of over a year of dedicated research and development.

The order calls for one ship to be delivered in the Fall of 2014 with an option for a second ship for Spring 2015. The 158,000 Gross Registered Tons (GRT) new build will carry just over 4,100 guests based on double occupancy. The estimated all-in cost per berth is about €170,000. This all-in cost includes the yard's base contract price plus everything needed to design, operate and build the vessel, from architect fees to supervision costs and all loose inventories from computers to art and bed linens.

"Royal Caribbean has worked hard to earn a reputation of offering the most innovative ships in the cruise industry and this next generation will not disappoint," said Richard D. Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. "While we continue our policy of keeping our newest ideas and features under wraps during the early stages of construction, I can say that I am very excited about the passion and imagination that our teams have devoted to the project. Project Sunshine builds on the best ideas of our existing ships and adds exciting new activities and entertainment concepts. It will offer features for everyone: from grand, spectacular spaces to small intimate settings; from active, invigorating activities to the serenity of more personal space; and from a plethora of dining alternatives to a cornucopia of opportunities for families. I am also excited about the energy efficiency and environmental technologies which have been incorporated. Our existing ships are some of the most energy efficient in the world and Project Sunshine takes this one further step. Based on our over 20 years of experience with MEYER WERFT, along with their compelling proposal, we know they will deliver on all of the innovations Royal Caribbean's guests have come to expect."

"MEYER WERFT is pleased to be working with Royal Caribbean especially in light of their reputation for building such innovative ships. I am very happy we are continuing our long time partnership with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. and its brand Royal Caribbean International. Their projects always present incredible opportunities for MEYER WERFT to create the latest cutting edge hardware in the cruise industry," said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of MEYER WERFT shipyard.

The letter of intent is subject to customary conditions being satisfactorily met.

Prizes Awarded To Strong Partners

Prizes Awarded To Strong Partners Best Suppliers Honoured For the Fifth Time

Papenburg, 10 February 2011 - This year's supplier award event of MEYER WERFT, "Partner des Jahres 2010" emphasized once again the important role regional and (inter -)national suppliers are playing for the shipyard. Representatives from high-performance partner companies from the shipbuilding industry had accepted the invitation to come to Papenburg's Alte Werft convention centre.

Awarding the prize "Partner des Jahres" took centre stage of this event for the fifth time already. MEYER WERFT's best suppliers who excelled in terms of organisation, quality, reliability and occupational safety were honoured in the categories mechanical engineering, electrotechnics, outfitting and interiors/accommodation. Also, a special prize was awarded. The prizes were awarded based on the results of the supplier ratings conducted for the cruise ships AIDAblu and Celebrity which the shipyard delivered to the owners in 2010.

The prize award ceremony was certainly at the core of the event, but the focus was also on the issue of MEYER WERFT's continuous improvement process. The measures which are currently being implemented step by step throughout the whole shipyard within the scope of the "Lean Shipbuilding" system were explained to the suppliers in detail. The goal is to stand up against the massive pressure on prices for cruise ships by means of a considerable increase in productivity. Looking at the high proportion of work that is contracted out per cruise ship it is indispensable to MEYER WERFT to incorporate its suppliers in this new production strategy to a very high degree. It is only in cooperation with its partners that the shipyard can successfully face the price war in the market, at the same time safeguarding the quality of its products. Award winners "Partner des Jahres 2010" of MEYER WERFT:

Mechanical engineering: e + s aqua, Oyten
Outfitting: marine glazing Brombach und Gess, Balingen
Interiors/Accommodation: HK Development / Hermann Kassens, Papenburg
Electrotechnics: Funa, Emden
Special award: Menü 2000 Catering, Papenburg

Anthony Veder orders LNG Carrier

Papenburg/Rotterdam, January 24, 2011 - The Dutch shipping company Anthony Veder (Rotterdam) has ordered a new LNG carrier from MEYER WERFT. The new tanker for the transport of liquefied natural gas will have a length overall of abt. 156 m, a breadth of 22.70 m, and a cargo capacity of 15,600 cbm. This modern vessel which will be able to run on the low emission LNG fuel will be classed within the highest environmental norms.

The delivery of this new vessel is scheduled for the end of 2012. MEYER WERFT's sister company, NEPTUN WERFT in Rostock-Warnemünde, will be highly involved in the construction and outfitting of this new LNG carrier. For the shipyard in the Baltic this order is very important to safeguard the workload for their staff up to 2012.

For Anthony Veder this is the second small-scale LNG carrier. This new vessel has double the capacity than the Coral Methane. MEYER WERFT and Anthony Veder Group have already worked together since the mid of the 1970s. "We are excited about our next step in LNG with this innovative ship, the first of this type. It fits our goal to further develop this market of distributing environmental friendly energy." says Jan Valkier, Managing Director of Anthony Veder.

Thanks to this new order MEYER WERFT, which has already built 55 LPG- and LEG carriers, is now entering the market of building LNG carriers. The Papenburg-based shipyard's focus is on mid-scale ships of this type. "We see that the smaller-scale LNG market has a great future," says Bernard Meyer, Managing Partner of MEYER WERFT.

MEYER WERFT Delivers Disney Dream

Disney Cruise Line Takes the Helm of Newest Ship

Delivery Ceremony celebrates final milestone; Disney Dream set to depart for Florida

Bremerhaven, GERMANY, (Dec. 9, 2010) - Disney Cruise Line took possession of its newest ship - Disney Dream - today from the MEYER WERFT shipyard in a traditional maritime ceremony aboard the ship in Bremerhaven, Germany. The MEYER WERFT flag was lowered, while the Disney Cruise Line flag was raised, transferring ownership from the shipbuilder to Disney.

The milestone closes the book on the ship's construction journey, which began nearly two years ago in Papenburg, Germany, and signals its readiness to welcome guests on its maiden voyage, set for Jan. 26, 2011, from Port Canaveral, Florida.

"The Disney Dream is an extraordinary ship, in part because of the collaboration of the superb shipbuilders at MEYER WERFT and the innovative technology and storytelling that our Disney team has developed and implemented aboard," said Karl Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. "I cannot wait for our guests to experience this newest addition to our fleet, a ship that will delight and surprise all ages."

From a water coaster at sea called AquaDuck, and inside staterooms with virtual views, to Enchanted Art that immerses guests in stories, and fine dining at Remy's, the Disney Dream will deliver family cruise experiences like no other. The shipboard experience remains focused on the legacy and heritage of The Walt Disney Company's most known assets - master storytelling, world-class entertainment and legendary guest service.

"It gives me great pride to deliver the Disney Dream, which is the largest ship that MEYER WERFT has ever built," said Bernard Meyer, managing partner of MEYER WERFT. "Over the last few years, I have seen this 'dream' transform from the design phase to a magnificent reality, which guests will soon be able to enjoy for years to come. To make this dream come true, it takes a special partnership. The collaboration among Disney Cruise Line, MEYER WERFT and its suppliers has been excellent and very creative."

MEYER WERFT and Disney first signed a contract to build two new ships in April of 2007. Shortly thereafter, planning for the design of the ships began and construction started with the first steel cutting in Papenburg, Germany, on March 2, 2009. Since the recent completion of the ship's float out from the shipyard and conveyance along the River Ems, the test-and-adjust period has been in full swing, including sea trials and a brief dry dock in Hamburg, Germany. The ship will remain in Bremerhaven for another week while additional crew members board, and supplies and provisions are loaded. The Disney Dream is scheduled to depart on Dec. 19, for its transatlantic voyage to the U.S., with an expected arrival on Jan. 4, 2011.

Captain Tom Forberg will officially take the helm of the Disney Dream for Disney Cruise Line. As part of the Disney Cruise Line ship construction team, Captain Forberg has been with the company for 15 years and was responsible for launching Disney's first two ships, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder.

The Disney Dream is scheduled to sail three-, four- and five-night cruises to the Bahamas, from Port Canaveral. Sister ship Disney Fantasy is currently in production at the MEYER WERFT shipyard and is scheduled to set sail on its maiden voyage on April 7, 2012. It will sail seven-night alternating eastern and western Caribbean itineraries, also from Port Canaveral.

Based in Celebration, Fla., the Disney Cruise Line experience is focused on providing a setting where families can reconnect, adults can recharge and kids can immerse themselves in worlds of fantasy only Disney can create. Most recently, the company was recognized as the top cruise experience by the readers of Conde Nast Traveler magazine. Disney Cruise Line was voted the No. 1 cruise experience in the magazine's 2010 Readers' Choice Awards in the mega-ship category.
