Cooperation agreed with more schools

As part of the “Evening of Education” that took place yesterday at the shipyard, MEYER WERFT signed cooperation agreements with two more schools. The aim is to expand the shipyard’s collaboration with schools and secure even more qualified professionals for the company. Students can learn about the world of work and business, gain appropriate practical experience, and get a realistic impression of training and job requirements. This should encourage schools to offer a realistic, activity-based economic education. The shipyard has been working closely with local schools for several decades. As part of the new cooperation plan, MEYER WERFT will give students an even deeper insight into its daily business by offering things like company tours and internships, while schools will make their lessons more practical.

MEYER WERFT will also run projects with schools to get students interested in the world of work. The agreement will help train skilled workers and keep them in the region. The new cooperation agreement was signed yesterday at the shipyard by the Realschule-Friesenschule in Leer and the Pestalozzi Specialist School in Papenburg.

This was followed by the Evening of Education, where 385 participants discovered the training opportunities at MEYER WERFT. Some of the participants came all the way from places like Essen, Würzburg and Munich. The idea was well received by boys and girls from the 8th grade onwards, who showed an interest in training at the company. After a welcome address by Anna Blumenberg from the HR Management Team, apprentices and supervisors presented training courses and dual study programmes in the training workshops. The young people also had the chance to get their hands on some practical work by making their own phone holders on the drilling and milling machines.

The Spectrum of the Seas leaves the dock

Ship leaves building dock II and floating unit enters the dock

The Spectrum of the Seas will probably be leaving the covered building dock II at the MEYER WERFT on 25 February 2019. The ship has a rating of 169,300 GT and measures 347.75 m in length and 41.4 m in width, with ca-pacity for 4,188 passengers.

The ship built for the American Royal Caribbean International shipping company will start to leave the dock at around 8 p.m. Once the Spectrum of the Seas has left the dock, it will berth at the shipyard's out-fitting pier to be fitted with its funnel cladding. Weather permitting, the North Star (glazed viewing capsule) will also be installed on the ship. The ship will then remain in the shipyard port for further out-fitting work and on-board trials until its passage through the river Ems up to the North Sea, which will probably take place mid March.

Possible delays due to the weather

For the Spectrum of the Seas to be able to berth at the out-fitting pier, the floating section (engine room unit) of the Norwegian Encore that is currently moored here will have to be moved to another berth in the shipyard port. Once the Spectrum of the Seas has left the dock, the floating part for the Norwegian Encore, which is due for completion in autumn 2019, will be manoeuvred back into the free covered building dock II for further construction work.

All times are subject to the weather.

The one millionth pipe to be produced since the MEYER WERFT Pipe Machining Center was founded on 01/01/2010, left the production line today. The company is a central service provider and supplier for the MEYER Group. About 52,000 pipes have to be made for every cruise ship. The "Donations instead of Gifts" campaign generates € 20,000

MEYER WERFT partners donate for a good cause

On behalf of MEYER WERFT, Klaus Lübbers (Chief Procurement Officer) and Jussi Matikainen (Compliance Division) handed over a sym-bolic donation cheque amounting to € 20,000 to Leinerstift e.V. and to helpful Kin-derhospiz e.V.

The building of the Leinerstift special school was destroyed together with countless ma-terials during a fire in summer 2018, The donation will be used to replace the items lost in the fire.

The donation for helpful Kinderhospiz e.V. will go towards building a mobile children's hospice centre for the northern Emsland and adjoining East Frisia. Training will soon be offered here for hospice volunteers to support and accompany affected families in their own homes on request.

The money was collected during the Christmas campaign “Donations instead of Gifts”. Since 2015, with this campaign MEYER WERFT has asked our partner companies not to give our employees Christmas gifts but to support a charity instead.

Many partners responded to the request by donating altogether €13,495. The man-agement of MEYER WERFT decided to top up the sum donated by the partners to the amount of €20,000.

"I'm impressed by the work of these two charities, and am therefore very pleased to see that so many partners have responded to our request. As a result, we can support the two charities with this donation", says Klaus Lübbers.
