Sustainability Reimagined
The 100% battery-electric system enables operation in emission-regulated areas and significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions. At the same time, noise and vibration levels are significantly minimized. A key feature is the modular design: battery modules and technical components are arranged for easy access, interchangeability, and scalability. This creates ideal conditions for:
- efficient maintenance and refurbishmentfuture
- capacity adjustments
- long-term development of the ship throughout its lifecycle
“Funnel-free” design – new freedom on deck
By eliminating the traditional exhaust funnel, the concept opens up entirely new design possibilities. Instead of a dominant funnel, compact, discreetly integrated exhaust systems for individual battery compartments are used. Since neither exhaust gases nor soot particles are produced, the sun deck can be designed to be free, open, and unrestricted—without odors, without particles, with unrestricted comfort, and unobstructed views.
Adapted Range
Just as with electric mobility on land, a battery-electric ship also requires an adapted operating profile. For operating areas such as the Baltic Sea, the Mediterranean, or other European routes, the range of the concept is sufficient from today’s perspective—especially at moderate speeds. For special requirements, such as higher speeds or an Atlantic crossing, the concept can be flexibly expanded, for example through:
- additional hybrid propulsion systems
- temporary generator containers
- alternative range-extender solutions
Designed for every season
Since a full battery-electric cruise ship is particularly well-suited for European routes, the concept was specifically developed as a ship suitable for year-round operation. A highlight is the weather-independent indoor water park, which was deliberately relocated to the lower decks. This concept—a “Tropical Island @ Sea”—offers several advantages:
- year-round, weather-independent use
- a calmer, more elegant exterior design without dominant slide towers
- weight distribution toward the lower sections, thereby improving the ship’s stability
Innovative Approaches to Cabin Design
VISION is also breaking new ground in the area of standard cabins. Thanks to a newly developed bed concept that converts into a chaise lounge during the day, the cabin grid can be reduced to 2,500 mm—while maintaining straight cabin walls and without compromising comfort.
- More freedom of movement during the day
- Full functionality at night
- A significantly higher number of cabins for the same ship length
