First LNG-operated cruise ship for Disney

On 3 March 2016, Disney Cruise Line announced its plans to have two new cruise ships built at MEYER WERFT, followed in July 2017 by an announcement of the plans for a third cruise ship.

The three ships should be finished in 2021, 2022 and 2013. With a rating of approx. 135.000 GRT each, the new ships will be slightly larger than the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy built by MEYER WERFT. The three new-builds will have capacity for about 1,250 passenger cabins and will run on environmentally friendly LNG (liquefied natural gas). Although the plans for the design, the name and the routes of the ships are still being developed, the Walt Disney Imagineering Team is already thinking about exciting new possibilities for providing the world’s best adventures at sea.

Disney Cruise Line offers families a complete cruise experience that combines Disney magic with the thrill of discovering different parts of the world.

Disney Cruise Line introduced various innovations with the Disney Dream and the Disney Fantasy in 2011 and 2012. These include a new water slide (“AquaDuck”) and virtual portholes (“Magical Portholes”) in the inside cabins which featured the sea in real time as well as animated Disney characters.
