Transfer of a Cruise Liner

Norwegian Star to be transferred for completion to new covered building dock of MEYER WERFT Shipyard

Papenburg, June 2001 - After completion of initial trials the 92,000 GT cruise vessel Norwegian Star will leave the covered building dock on 15th June. Then the vessel, which is being built for the U.S. based shipping company Norwegian Cruise Line (a subsidiary of Star Cruises), will be transferred to the new building dock II which is still under construction. Here the interior work and the technical trials will continue. In the autumn of 2001 the cruise liner will be conveyed to the Dutch port of Eemshaven to undergo extensive sea trials in the North Sea. Delivery to the owners is due to take place at the end of October. Norwegian Star is the first of two vessels built by MEYER WERFT for Norwegian Cruise Line. The second vessel, Norwegian Dawn, is scheduled to be delivered in late 2003. Norwegian Star has a length of 294.1 metres overall, a breadth of 32.2 metres and will develop a speed of more than 24.6 knots. She will be capable of carrying 2240 passengers in 1120 cabins as well as 1317 crew members. The vessel´s energy (58,800 kW) will be generated by a diesel-electric system. The ship will be driven by two 19.5 MW azipods. The podded drive ensures very low noise and vibration levels as well as excellent manoeuvring capabilities. Norwegian Star provides a variety of exclusive features. One of the most exciting aspects onboard Norwegian Star is the innovative Freestyle Cruising concept. Freestyle Dining offers passengers 10 dining options including Italian, Chinese, Spanish, French, Californian and Japanese cuisine and allows guests to eat whenever and wherever they wish. Other architectonical highlights include the atrium which extends over eight decks and the three-deck theatre seating more than 1000 passengers. At the end of the year the vessel will operate its first cruise out of Hawaii. Norwegian Star Main Particulars
