Steel cutting for the first ship of the Quantum-Ultra class

Steel building begins

The steel cutting of the vessel number S.700 marks the start of construction for the first ship in the new Quantum-Ultra-class. Sebastian Brunila, Director Quantum-Class Projects at Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., pushed the start button of the computer-controlled cutting machine, thereby commencing work on the first steel plate for the new cruise ship.

The the new ship will be named Spectrum of the Seas. This is the fourth ship for Royal Caribbean within the last years. Completion is planned for spring 2019. Royal

Caribbean took delivery of the similar sister ships Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas and Ovation of the Seas in autumn 2014, spring 2015 and spring 2016.

The Spectrum of the Seas will have a capacity for about 4,200 passengers at a dimension of 168,800 GRT.

The short ceremony to mark the start of steel cutting in the laser centre was attended by MEYER WERFT project manager Carsten Pengel and Sebastian Brunila, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. "It is our great pleasure to build these innovative ships for Royal Caribbean and to continue our long-standing business relationship", said Stephan Schmees, Director Project Management MEYER WERFT.
