PT.Pelni and MEYER WERFT sign Memorandum of Understanding

Development of a passenger ship for the island state of Indonesia

On 18 April, the Indonesian shipping company PT. Pelni and the MEYER WERFT, Papenburg, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the development and construction of a new passenger ferry. The MoU was signed during the Indonesia-German Forum in Berlin, which was also attended by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo, numerous ministers and a large Indonesian delegation.

The event with numerous representatives of German industry was hosted by the Indonesian Embassy in Berlin and the Asian-Pacific Committee (APA). The forum aims to strengthen strategic cooperation with Indonesia’s traditional partners in order to meet global challenges.

In view of the changing flows of traffic for goods, services and passengers in Indonesia, together with the country’s strategic island location on international trade routes, attention will now focus on examining which type of ship will be best suited to meeting the new requirements in Indonesia.

“I am very glad that we can continue our excellent partnership with Indonesia, which has linked us together for more than 60 years,” says CEO Bernard Meyer.
