Galley, Lighthouse-room & Seagulls-nest

Galley, lighthouse-room and seagulls-nest are the names of the children’s spaces within the nursery of MEYER WERFT in Papenburg. In 2011 MEYER WERFT was already awarded with the quality seal for family-friendliness. Inspired by this, the nursery points the way for a better compability of family and career. Worrying about the child can cause a stressful atmosphere at work; therefore we try to support our employees with child care. In April 2013, MEYER WERFT opened its first in-house nursery. The nursery Nautilus has flexible business hours, operating from 7 am through 5 pm and provides child care for children under the age of 3 years, as well as a kindergarten group for children of 3 years and up. Child care of high quality is being provided by specialized staff of the German Red-Cross, which makes the nursery Nautilus a showcase project in respect of child care.

Currently, the German Red-Cross supports an overall of 1.300 nurseries, day care centers, kindergartens and playgroups nation-wide for children aged from two months up to 14 years. In Lower-Saxony alone there are 340 nurseries, which are supported financially and pedagogically by the GRC state association. The GRC has strategically declared child care as their principal task. The GRC district association of the county Emsland, who is already provider of Villa Kunterbunt located in Aschendorf and the kindergarten Regenbogenland in Papenburg, now also supports the nursery Nautilus with their know-how and managements skills.

The two-third majority of the nursery is reserved for the more than 2.500 employees of MEYER WERFT; the remaining spaces are available to children and parents from the local area.
