MEYER WERFT at a glance
MEYER WERFT GmbH & Co. KG based in Papenburg was founded in 1795 and is in its seventh generation of family ownership. Bernard Meyer is managing partner of the company.
MEYER WERFT has achieved an excellent worldwide reputation in recent decades for constructing and building special-purpose ships. The company is especially well-known due to the construction of large, modern and sophisticated cruise ships. Over the years the shipyard has built 40 cruise ships for discerning customers from all over the world. Latest highlight: The delivery of the Norwegian Escape in October 2015.
MEYER WERFT offers its customers innovations and technologies: car and passenger ferries as well as RoRo ships have been successfully constructed in Papenburg for decades. MEYER WERFT’s affiliated company, NEPTUN WERFT GmbH & Co. KG in Rostock, is building river cruise liners and supplements the offer. The construction of gas tankers and research vessels rounds off the portfolio.
In 2002 MEYER WERFT made the biggest investment in the history of the company: a second building dock and pre-fabrication halls equipped with state-of-the-art laser welding plants were built. In 2008 the dock was extended by 120 m and in 2012 the shipyard’s laser centre was extended by another hall. These premises provide the best possible conditions for the construction of all customary ship sizes.
Today MEYER WERFT employs more than 3,300 people, making it one of the most important employers in the region. The family-owned company also provides professional training to about 300 apprentices. The workload will keep the company busy well into the year 2020.
